For a few years I coordinated individual picnic lunches for each staff member. It was what the Hospitality Chair before me did, so I carried on the tradition. The staff loved it, but… I’m going to be honest, it was extremely difficult. Students and their parents were always eager to make a special lunch for their teacher, but finding enough volunteers to make a lunch for relatively unknown support staff (around 25%) was challenging.
I came up with another idea instead. I planned two days of lunches rather than one (Down Home Barbecue and Chili Cook-Off) and offered this printable “Fancy Pants Picnic” lunch decoration set to all parents. (I only charged them for the cost of printing.) Anyone was welcome to make a staff lunch on days it was not being provided in the staff lounge by the Hospitality Committee. The parents loved it because they were able to include lunch in their classroom appreciation activities, and the lunch looked cute with minimal effort on their part. It was a win-win!
I also offered parents the option of purchasing customized “Our Teacher (name) is the Best in the West” posters (again, just for the cost of printing). With all of the Wanted posters I printed, printing 60 more customized posters was not in my budget, but it was very affordable for parents to purchase one from me for their classroom door.
